As virtually all Americans are aware, Biden brazenly declared that all companies with more than 100 employees must mandate vaccines.
Not only is this an utterly brazen infiltration of the government into America’s private industry, but it is also a great way to destroy various businesses, especially when the management of various businesses fails to take into account the views of its employees.
For instance, Gary Kelly, Southwest’s CEO, promptly agreed to Biden’s vaccine mandate, making a rather explicit announcement on October 4.
“Southwest Airlines must join our industry peers in complying with the federal government’s COVID-19 vaccination directive … I encourage all Southwest Employees to meet the federal directive, as quickly as possible, since we value every individual and want to ensure job security for all.” [Source: Southwest Airlines]
It appears that Southwest pilots, flight attendants, and other related staff also value “freedom for all” over job security, given what transpired this past weekend.
As the media has widely reported, at least 1,800+ Southwest flights have been disrupted over the weekend.
As the media has not widely reported, many of these disruptions may be due to factors outside of “disruptive weather.”
Just consider the ridiculous tweet from Southwest Airlines below.
“ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation. We appreciate your patience as we accommodate affected Customers, and Customer Service wait times are longer than usual.” [Source: OANN]
More like “ATC issues” (i.e., walkouts) and disruptive vaccine mandates are the real reason for the “high volume” of cancellations.
At least the Southwest Airlines Pilots Union was a bit more straightforward than Southwest Airlines management.
“[The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association] is aware of operational difficulties affecting Southwest Airlines today due to a number of issues, but we can say with confidence that our Pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job action …
Our Pilots will continue to overcome SWA management’s poor planning, as well as any external operational challenges, and remain the most productive Pilots in the world. They will continue to be focused on their highest priority — safety. SWAPA Pilots are true professionals and will always maintain the highest level of responsibility to their crews, their passengers, and our airline.” [Source: The Daily Wire]
By “poor planning,” they likely allude, at least in part, to management’s draconian vaccine mandates, particularly since such mandates originate from a president who has waffled more than just about anyone in recent history.
This allusion is further validated by the lawsuit that the Southwest Pilots Union filed on Friday, which just happened to coincide with the 1,800+ flight cancellations to follow.
“The new vaccine mandate unlawfully imposes new conditions of employment and the new policy threatens termination of any pilot not fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021 … Southwest Airlines’ additional new and unilateral modification of the parties’ collective bargaining agreement is in clear violation of the RLA.” [Source: Bloomberg]
The vaccine mandate in general is also a clear violation of individual choice, and employees at Southwest Airlines are hardly the only ones put off by such an intrusive government.
For instance, Sherry Walker, one of the founders of Airline Employees for Health Freedom, alludes to numerous United Airlines employees who also support a major pushback of vaccine mandates.
“We have people in every department, every day. The number is growing. I keep getting words of encouragement from people who… I mean, even the vaccinated, they understand that we are here trying to protect our religious liberty and freedoms …
And we are not anti-vaxxers, by any means. We are pro-choice.” [Source: Breitbart]
Oh, the irony.
Democrats love to shriek about “pro-choice” when it suits them, but when someone dares to raise the “pro-choice argument” in other contexts, they are suddenly not only anti-American, but apparently the equivalent of a domestic terrorist.
It will be quite intriguing to see what other cancellations may arise in the coming weeks … as well as how authoritarian the Biden administration’s response will be.
