Yet another member of the Biden clan is aiming to make mega bucks from the Biden presidency.
Valerie Biden, the sister of Joe Biden, is commencing a book tour, starting in Washington, D.C. in advance of the release of her work, Growing Up Biden: A Memoir.
The book is set to be released on April 12, and it may well contain additional headaches for the White House. Valerie Biden, who has served as a longtime campaign advisor to her brother, technically violates the ethics policy at the White House in doing so, at least per White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s prior remarks.
Early on in Biden’s presidency, Psaki proclaimed that the White House has a strict policy regarding the commercialization of the presidency.
“The president’s name should not be used in connection with any commercial activities to suggest or in any way … [that] could reasonably be understood to imply his endorsement or support,” Psaki sniffed.
At the time, Psaki’s remarks were in reference to Meena Harris, the niece of Kamala, who attempted to capitalize on the Biden White House by selling her aunt’s likeness and name across her personal book and clothing line.
However, the White House intervened to prevent Meena Harris from pursuing Kardashian-style ventures based on the Biden presidency.
Just one year later, however, Biden’s sister is now hitting the shelves of numerous bookstores, which represents a clear conflict of interest. This conflict is amplified by the fact that she has served as a major advisor during all Biden’s senatorial and presidential runs.
In addition, Biden’s sister also served as his national campaign chair during his presidential campaign in 2007 and 2008.
While records do not illuminate direct payment to Biden’s sister, they do show income of $2.5M for the Democrat consulting firm Joe Slade White & Company. Biden’s sister serves as the “Executive Vice President” of this particular venture.
In addition, during the Obama presidency, Biden’s niece, or Valerie’s daughter, served as the senior coordinator for China at the Treasury Department, a position she held for over two years.
Biden’s book is set to be published by Celadon Books, and the cover art of the memoir feature childhood photos of herself, President Biden, their other two siblings, and their mother.
