DeSantis Gives Facebook & Twitter an Expensive Ultimatum

Ron DeSantis, the GOP Governor of Florida, has recently promised that Florida would take on social media giants head on by rendering social media bans illegal. Donald J. Trump has been indefinitely removed from both Facebook and Twitter, including when he was the President of the United States.

Thus, in order to prevent other politicians from being silenced by social media giants in the future, the state of Florida, with the support of DeSantis, recently passed legislation that would prevent major companies from banning various political representatives.

DeSantis issued his initial warning to major tech giants in February, and he has now followed through on this warning, as noted by The Hill. Per this media outlet, the Florida Senate and House passed legislation that would ensure social media giants cannot ban any political representative.

Should social media giants prove to move forward with banning politicians, they could be fined for upwards of $250,000 per day for state politicians, as well as up to $25,000 per day for other elected officials.

Moreover, the bill permits politicians to be suspended for upwards of two weeks, as well as for inflammatory posts to be taken down, should either violate social media giant’s terms and conditions.

Various opponents of the new legislation allege that the bill is unconstitutional, even though they acknowledge that the social media giants are private companies. However, these companies are also used for a variety of different purposes, including charity, commerce, and information sharing, which means that they should fall within the realm of governmental regulation.

The leftist executives that run the major tech corporations gravitate towards the views and perspectives of the mainstream, liberal media, as well as the Democrat Party. In general, both the media and Democrats desire to censor conservatives, which renders the conflict between conservatives and liberals as one akin to Americans against Goliath. For this reason, it is necessary for Americans to fight back against the increasing encroachment of big tech.
